Our
History
In the Fall of 2005, Laurie
Bailey set out to establish a Christian Sorority on the campus of the
Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.
Laurie prayed about this
decision for quite some time and felt that God was pushing her to begin
a new Christian sisterhood.
With help from the Theta chapter
of Kappa Upsilon Chi in 2006, Laurie was able to write out the rituals,
constitutions, infrastructure, accountability guidelines and the other
necessary components for national organization.
In the Spring of 2006, curiosity
began to grow in the hearts of several girls about starting Theta Alpha
at the University of Florida.
Caroline Burns, a junior at the
University of Florida, worked with Laurie to establish both the Alpha
and Beta chapters of Theta Alpha. Florida State held initiation on
April 20, 2006, when they initiated their eleven charter members, as
well as four officers from the University of Florida all in the same
night. On April 28, 2006, University of Florida held their own
initiation for their two remaining officers and five charter members.
Theta Alpha recognizes Laurie
Bailey, Caroline Burns, Kristen Rupert, Lindsey Soulis, and Kaitlin
Griffiths are recognized as founders of Theta Alpha at the national
level.
In its first year of existence,
the Alpha chapter held two rounds of recruitment and initiated three
new charters and four women. The Beta chapter also held two rounds of
recruitment and initiated eighteen in the Fall of 2006 and eighteen in
the Spring of 2007.
Spring of 2008, Theta Alpha
colonized at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
To date, Theta Alpha's campus
ministry has held hundreds of weekly chapter meetings, prayer events,
outreachers, dozens of formals and socials, semester retreats, and
weekly accountability group meetings. We've inducted and initiated
hundreds of college women. And we praise the Lord for all those who
have accepted Christ as their personal Lord and Savior in these last
four years as a result of their involvement with our ministry.
